Lets start it from the beginning
On my last meet with my Doctor I was prescribed to do the tests I have mentioned in my last post. Out of them one was a Triple Marker Test. Now this is a screening test performed between 15th week to 18th week to check if the child you are bearing is suffering from Down Syndrome (Also called 21 Trisomy) or Edward Syndrome (Also called 18 Trisomy).
Down Syndrome or 21 Trisomy in child leads to Mental Retardation (Mild to Severe)
and Edward Syndrome or 18 Trisomy in child leads to Kidney malformations, Structural heart defects, developmental delays or malformed body parts.
Due to my doctors lack of knowledge or may be unalertness she asked to perform the test in my 13th week of pregnancy. But my dignostic center ( Path Lab) refused for a test at that stage as it was too early for me to go through that test and asked me to come a week later.
Now the test was performed on me when I completed 14 weeks and was running in 15th week ( Still not complete 15 weeks prego).
And the result that came was shocking..... the results showed a high risk of down syndrome as my UE3 an important part of triple marker test was low from the reference range.
I was shattered when I saw the reports... though I could understand very little from it but could make out that something is wrong.
Next day early morning I was at my gynecologist's clinic to know if everything is fine... and after looking at the reports with a sorry face she asked me to consult a Fetal Specialist to understand the report better and take her advice on if I should go from Amniocentesis. I left her cabin crying and asking God that why me that too with my first child.
Next day I was at the Fetal Specialist's clinic with my reports. After looking at my reports she said that I am not happy with the fact that you got your test done at such an early stage. as per her 14 weeks 3 days gestation date results are not accurate.... Well she gave us a ray of hope and asked me to repeat the test by the end of 15th week or beginning of 16th week. She also did an ultrasound to check the neck thickness and nasal bone size... which as per her were normal. (Children with down syndrome have a thick neck and smaller nasal bone.) I was relieved to some extent after meeting her and decided to think positive and happy till I get my repeat Triple Marker Test....
I got it done again when I was 16weeks 3 days pregnant and by GOD's GRACE It screened Negative. Today Morning I showed my results to the fetal specialist and she said the figures are now correct and no need to worry as everything is fine with your kid. :) Still she has prescribed me to get a Level 2 Scan at the 20th week. She reassured us that though everything is fine and the Scan 2 is not a necessity but there is no harm in being sure that everything is fine with your little one. :)
Now I have decided to quit consulting my previous gynecologist as when I informed her that the time she prescribed me was too early for a test she was not ready to accept it. Anyways I hope this will be useful for you readers...
